My name is Crystal, and I am a Traditional Birth Attendant, Full Spectrum Doula, Childbirth Educator, Yoni Steam Practitioner, Maternal Health Researcher & Writer, and Student Midwife. Since 2018, I have continued to build my education and hands-on experience in pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum support, childbirth education, traditional birth practices, and community-based maternal care.

My work is grounded in both formal education and experiential learning. Over the years, I have completed training and certification as a Birth Doula, Childbirth Educator, Yoni Steam Practitioner, and Birth Attendant. I have also worked in evidence-based maternal health research and writing and continue my education as a Student Midwife.

My education has been strengthened by years of learning directly within community-based and traditional birth spaces. Sitting with experienced birth workers and traditional midwives has allowed me to deepen my understanding of physiological birth, labor support, maternal positioning, childbirth preparation, postpartum care, family-centered support, and the traditional knowledge surrounding pregnancy and birth.

My personal birth experiences have also contributed significantly to the way I approach this work. As a mother who has experienced four hospital births, two birthing center births, and four home births, I have encountered birth within several different models of care. These experiences have given me a unique perspective on the differences between institutional, birth-center, and home-based maternity care and have strengthened my ability to support women whose birth choices may look very different from one another.

Through Mujer de Parto, I provide education, preparation, emotional support, physical comfort measures, traditional birth knowledge, and continuous presence throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, and the broader reproductive journey.

As a Traditional Birth Attendant and Full Spectrum Doula, my role is not to dictate how a woman should give birth. My responsibility is to help women become more informed about their bodies, understand the physiological process of birth, ask meaningful questions, explore available options, prepare for labor and postpartum, and make decisions that reflect their own values, circumstances, and beliefs.

My approach recognizes that birth knowledge existed long before the modern medical system. Historically, pregnancy and childbirth were supported within families and communities by mothers, grandmothers, parteras, traditional birth attendants, midwives, and other knowledgeable women who passed practical and cultural knowledge from one generation to the next.

My background in maternal health research and writing further informs my practice. I believe birth workers should continue studying, questioning, researching, and expanding their knowledge. Traditional knowledge and evidence-based education do not have to exist in opposition; both can contribute to a deeper understanding of pregnancy, physiological birth, postpartum recovery, and maternal well-being.

Whether a woman is planning a hospital birth, birthing center birth, or home birth, my intention is to meet her where she is. I provide support without judgment while helping families approach pregnancy and birth with greater knowledge, preparation, confidence, dignity, and connection.

Through Mujer de Parto, I continue to combine professional doula education, traditional birth assistance, maternal health research, continuing midwifery education, personal birth experience, and community-based learning in service to women and families.

I honor the women I support today, the teachers and traditional midwives who have shared their knowledge with me, and the generations of women whose birth wisdom made this work possible.
